This height leaves enough room under the fence to avoid incidental trapping of a hoof, while still acting as a deterrent towards anything on the opposite side of the fence.

Openings should be sufficient to remove the risk of trapping a hoof, or small enough that a hoof could not slip through the fence in the first place. Fences should also be smooth on the horse’s side of the fence, with all fasteners pointing outwards, to avoid the potential for any accidental injury to your horses.

Vinyl equestrian fencing comes with certain advantages for consumers and horses alike. One main benefit of this vinyl fencing option is that the cost to the consumer is much lower than some other methods of fencing, such as wood fencing. In addition to this lower cost, vinyl equestrian fencing is a virtually maintenance free option, requiring very little, if any, routine maintenance from the owner.

Vinyl fencing is a highly visible equestrian fencing option that is also highly durable. However, vinyl fencing will also give way under a substantial impact. If a horse runs into vinyl fencing at high speeds, the rails of the fence can give without splintering and causing severe injury to the horse. While the benefits of vinyl fencing massively outweigh the negatives, a significant downside to consider is that vinyl fencing rails can pop out of place when too much pressure is applied. It is highly recommended to pair vinyl fencing with a strand of electric fencing to prevent excessive leaning by the horses.
